Wind Meter Project - Ross Creek - Jordanelle Reservoir

Postby Josh Shirley » Tue Jun 17, 2025 10:13 am

Proposal
Ross Creek launch has become popular over the last few years.
Wind riders have discovered that it is one of the few North wind spots in our mountain region.
Currently, there are weather stations around the lake in the hills and canyons, but there is not a meter near the launch.

Ross Creek frequently sees many foil wingers, foil windsurfers, windsurfers, and kiters.

We have sourced a cellular data weather station that will be installed and provide current weather readings.
The system connects to the Ambient Weather Network https://ambientweather.net.
AWN allows data to be shared with Weather Underground, which in turn shares data with MesoWest and Weather Flow (IWindsurf, IKitesurf).

If we can install a WiFi station, the project budget will be reduced (estimated) $400.
Also, data logs (updates) will be every minute versus every 20 minutes.

Cellular data transmission is required.
There is a possibility of extended WIFi (with the help of a homeowner within 2500 feet)
