Snowkiting in Warren Miller This Week

Postby lesvierra » Mon Oct 22, 2007 10:45 am

I'm a warren miller geek. Havent missed one since puberty. This should be a historic showing of Warren Miller this year which will include some snowkiting and speed flying. I think a version of speed flying has been in one before, but not snowkiting. The trailer shows a millisecond of alex peterson riding along side of the road (dont blink or dont get distracted, you'll miss it) , and hopefully we'll see some other great shots.

Awesome news... thanks for informing us Les!

I've been waiting to see when the show was coming to town, I can't believe its this week. Jaime Donaldson spent a lot of time filming at Skyline last year, with Alex, Chasta and some others... let's hope we get a lot of local footage and maybe some local riders in there! RAD!

It will be cool to chill with the audience and take in the publics reaction to Snowkiting.. hopefully they will be as stoked as we all are and we'll have more friends to ride with and help explore the mountains for new spots!

Are you going to all 3 showings Les? I'll try to make the PC event.

Come on Brian, I'm not that much of a geek.

It was a cool feeling when they showed a segment of Entropy at the Ogden High Adventure Film Festival. Im not sure if I was high on anticipation and excitement, but I think the short got the best applaud from the audience of all the flicks. Also the muffled questions about snowkiting I could here people around asking to their company was entertaining. Most people outside of our group have never seen snowkiting. They're gonna shit! I cant wait for the Big Show.

Ok...who is going to the show tonight in PC? We need some snowkiters in the audience to rally everyone when the windy scenes roll out.

I can't go tonight, but plan to make the next showing.

I saw the WM movie last night in PC. The "snow kite" segment referred to above wasn't so much kiting as it was a pretty cool variation on paragliding. they filmed two guys rigged with what looked like small paragliders attached like a parachute, but with pretty short lines. the canopy was only a few feet over the riders' heads. They were coming down a huge mtn in the alps on skis, carving some turns every now and then, but mostly cruising above the snow, and they had to be moving in the 50-60 mph range most of the time. made for some huge launches where the mtn dropped away. They did a good job filming it with helmet cams on both riders. cool shots as one followed the other over jumps, etc. They might have called it speed skimming? Don't think i'd have the balls to try it on that terrain, but really looked fun.

The first half was pretty good action. At the beginning, I saw some snowkiting, less than a second. Asked my wife is she saw it, she said no. But I saw a guy spinning with kite lines going up. That was it. A historic half second of snowkite footage.

The second half was slow, repetitive and a bit dissapointing, but the speed flying segment was outstanding. They rode and flew the jangfrau massiff in swissland. Similar to the breathtaking Eiger segment on youtube. Snowkiting, maybe next year.

Les,

I saw the flash of Alex brown in the opening, I think the Kite stuff got bumped for the speed flying footage. It would have been hard to pimp kiting or gliding after the HD footage of two cats speed flying the Igier. And severel other sick alps desents.

Jason there are a bunch of kiters including Kenny who speed fly at the canyon quite often. Its worth checking out
