Burmester for the summer

So, I've been cranking on school, but I thought I'd post a little note for anyone who might be itching to mountainboard. It looks like Burmester is falling into the summer pattern already. The wind logs are showing the typical 10 mph NNE thermal flow staring around noon everyday. This is a good flow for a light guy like me to ride a 12m with decent power (ie, jumping is possible). I'd say 10-12m frenzys will work quite well. By now the surface will be set up for the season. Buttery smooth rides for miles and miles. I'm hoping to be out there some time this weekend. I'll post a report, but I thought I'd put this up in case anyone decided that big gear rides are less than palatable.

I'd like to watch some kite boarding sometime. How do you get there?

Also, do you use sit down carts (probably not since you mentioned jumping) or more like an all-terrain skateboard with straps?

I'd love to show you some riding. The surface is set for the season and it's in great shape.

Went out today, but had an epic tragedy.

When launching kites, always put your leash on. Lost my kite today in the 20-25 mph winds. Just couldn't catch up to it. If anyone is in Promontory or happens to go to the spiral jetty and finds a gold 12m Peter Lynn Phantom, pick it up, and let me know. After a five mile walk with no water, a half mile swim in the nasty salt lake with no assurance that I'd catch it, I had to turn back. <sobs>

So, I'm still looking to get some riding in, but probably next week.

To answer your question, yes, I am on a board. It's my favorite discipline of kiting. I feel most confident on the MTB and its just super exciting to be 6 feet off the deck over ground. Not for everyone, I know.

But, if Brian is reading this, that post I linked to said we should all rally up, which still sounds like a sick idea. Maybe that can happen, but I know it's hot now and the water is calling most folks out.

Anyhow, maybe next week?

I am planning on doing some riding at Burmester this year. You will see me out there when Rush dries up or on the really light days. I think it will be more fun landboarding than riding on the Salt Ponds. I would rather boost 6 feet above land than above the brine as it hurts more to dunk your head in the brine than to land on solid ground. I can land every 6 foot jump, but sometimes I get carried away and go bigger or try multiple rotations and that is just not smart on the salt ponds. There are some nice built in ramps at burmester and I was amazed by the surface. Looking forward to seeing you out there.
