New snow, good north. Hopefully the snow will clear out and give us some good rides this PM.

Hi Kenny,

Where do you find weather and wind info for Strawberry? I live in Summit Park (Park City) and it is looking pretty good at 10:00am with moderate skies and steady wind.

Andrew-
Any good Norterly flow will be good for Strawberry. The DSTU 1 Daniels- Strawberry reporting station is the best indicator which you can find on the Mesowest. How was your kite expedition? Did you guys ski some new couloirs? How's Lorne? Do you have any interest in kiting on the water this spring at Rush lake and Utah lake? We'd love to have you out there with us!

Current wind at Daniels, (always low, just look for gusts above 10mph)

http://www.met.utah.edu/cgi-bin/droman/ ... time=LOCAL

NOAA point forecast, pretty accurate.

Like Jason said, Northerly, and Westerly is good
South not good.

Andrew,

I look for a good north wind day. Clearing winds are typically the best and range in the 15 - 25 mph range. You can check Daniel's Summit on the mesonet, but it is in a wind shadow, so the readings there are usually just an indication of the wind direction. Strawberry River, Chicken Creek, Coop, and Ladders are all good on a north/northwest flow. If the forecast is for a good west wind, the marina or Ladders are good. South/Southwest wind is more iffy, sometimes you can catch it at the Marina, but it tends to be light. Not sure about the east wind there, we haven't had much east flow up there the past couple of years.

I rode Strawberry River. The snow was good in the lee areas, so I rode that most of the time. Snow is gone from most southern exposure hillside areas. Looks like a couple more weeks of riding at Strawberry and possibly a month more at Skyline.

Thanks everyone! I got out to Strawberry River today for a short outing. The wind was a bit light and I didn't have much time, but it looked like Tom, Billy and Stumper were having fun by the time I left.

The Alaska trip was a good adventure, but over all it had pretty light winds. To complicate matters, they were light winds, heavy sleds, deep snow and downwind travel, so we didn't cover as much ground as we'd hoped. Still, there were a few days of just cruising around on the Bagley with perfect weather and scenery that made it all worthwhile. After that, I went up to Thompson Pass/Valdez with Ben Ditto and had a few excellent days of kiting. If anything, it was too windy (50mph gusts).

I put together a trip report at: http://www.pawprince.com/trips/bagley_08/index.htm

and a little video of a storm day at: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YeqAsQWy-2A
