Utah Summer Games Report

Well here are the windsurfing results:
Gold - Skunk
Silver - Skunk
Bronze - Skunk

We were going to extend into Sunday but the forecast didn't change so I didn't.

I don't know if the kiters were able to pull anything off? Jacob will have to report on that.

My goal this year was to make the heats more mellow instead of running heats one after another. We surpassed that goal!

Craig was right on the money when calling for absolutely no wind. Although Emmanuel was able to pump up on a very short plane during one gust. So he is the only person to count the day.

We spent quite a bit of time cooling off in the water, trying out Eric Mumford's original windsurfer that his dad bought brand new. Many tried my sup paddle on different boards.
The original windsurf one design was a favorite due to its glide factor and extreme balance technique. Kind of like trying to paddle a log.

Although we didn't get time on the water I think most had a pretty good time just relaxing. Carl disappeared and pulled of a long nap in his van.

Gunnars showed up around 1 to say hi.

Mike brought a few friends and a jet ski. He is still working on extending his equipment breaking record. The ferrule in his 520 mast decided to break, without even touching the water.

Rick McClain played lifeguard for us.

Rick Heninger decided to landboard in the parking lot on the East wind. He claims to have gotten a few good sagebrush wave rides.

Wisconsin Bob showed us how to windsurf in lite wind on his mistral equip one design, which I have to admit moves pretty good in light wind. He still thinks we Utahans are nuts for not joining the rest of middle-land USA on these boards. He might be right, last time I checked most of us think we live in the gorge suburbs and commute to wind.

Rick, Emmanuel, Bim, Kenny (my son), and I ate at the barbeque.

I hope I am not leaving anyone out. Anyway I snagged two sets of metals, so we can have an unofficial do over. A non sanctioned Utah Summer Games windsurf do over event. Probably at Grantsville or Sulfur Creek.
Maybe the kiters can do the same.
I will get with the summer games people about vouchers for next years event, as reported on their website.
Whatever thou art, do well thy part.

Carl? What's with that guy. He's always taking lond naps in his mini van. Sounds fishy to me. What he's really doing in that van is a great mystery, of which the answer is something I wish not to know!

I'm not quite sure what language that is Josh, but I think you mean to talk of refunds.

I saw that Jake posted that those who paid the $20 entrance fee will get a credit on the next event... I agree... Those windsurfers who paid and didn't get to race will get the same. (either on an event or dues)... The money went to the Utah Summer Games and as of today I don't know of any refundage.

I'm not concerned about what Carl is doing in his van as long as it has nothing to do with wrapping bodies up in large sails, kianti wine, or fava beans...ts-ts-ts-ts!

This was fun hanging out with everybody. It was the most fun I've had at a skunk in a long time.

Yeah, I slolomed between the sage brush! Made sure to do a tick check later...

No wind... But nice work anyway Jake and Josh...Thanks to those who helped and participated in the skunkage... If there is wind, this is going to be a great event in years to come. We definitely should keep pushing it in the future. Especially that the USG does most of the work for us.

Some swag was handed out... Dakine Rack Pads to Bob for completing the course, a large UWA sticker to the woman whom we were never even able to talk to on the windsurfer one design who I believe shlogged the course in nearly zero wind, cool Dakine stickers to everybody, Dakine pads to Josh S for his efforts.

Once again thanks to Dakine for all the cool stuff they sent us.

What do you mean short? I was able to plane comfortably powered in the straps SHORE TO SHORE ;)

(Ok so that's 100 yd at the sailboat beach.. 10hours on the beach, a 30seconds ride.. That sounds about right...)
