Board info and ideas for Billy????

Postby bordy » Sun Apr 27, 2008 12:52 pm

I posted this under Buy & Sell also, but was hoping for some advise and ideas about boards that I should consider.

I wish I had the budget to just get a lunacy, or a 666 or something of the sort. Any thoughts are appreciated.

Help a Billy out, most of you know how I ride. And I am not very well educated in current board tech shape etc. I would rather buy a board from some one in the family then outsource to E-bay or Ikitesurf. I am looking for a high end ride with lots of pop and the ability to land from the hight I jump while still being a blast to turn and play in the chop with. I am thinking good mid size from 132 up to 142ish. I am eyeballing a 07 North ceaser pro on e-bay and may just pull the trigger if the bidding stay in my price range but at 132 long and 40 wide I am not sure if its the correct size for here. I have light wind options but really want a stick that will make it happen as soon as there is enough wind to start jumping under a big kite but I can still hold down a 7m with. Am I being unrealistic?

Just for referance I really like how the Nobile 666, North Dragon , and Best Pro boards ride and feel. I really haven't ridden many other shapes but really just want a board that I can ride as hard as I can with out feeling limited by it (like I do now with my Slingshot SX 130 that I really want to hand down to Christy the super kiter). As always I am a poor kite instructor and am hoping for some "local love" on cost. I am hoping one of you cats may have something that can fit the bill and my pocket book, not that I have a pocket book but if I did it would be almost empty...

Thanks,
Billy

Also Mikey how do you like your Sky???

I recently bought a Naish Sol, and though I'm not recommending it to you, my key to keeping it affordable was to buy a year behind. This dropped the price a good 200 bones, which is pretty well significant. You may want to try and find a 2007 board. I saw some Naish Thorns in that year out there for like 525 ... That may set you for what you're trying to accomplish. Supposedly, the Thorn is good for early planing and quick upwind with some decent chop eating ability. Also, it's an all-wood core, so responsive, durable, and eco friendly to boot! The trouble is that you're looking right in the prime size range, so getting ahold of a board in a 132-ish flavor is going to be hard. If you're looking for something that you can hold down into the 7m range, then 132 might be too big anyhow, so think about going down a size with a board that will get you up quick. In case you're into it (and I'll bet you were looking to spend a good deal less on a bigger board), but there's a listing here for a new 07 thorn 125: http://www.kitesite.net/showcategory.aspx?categoryid=31

This is all, of course, contingent on whether anyone here doesn't have any love to show you.

bill-

we will talk on the phone about this, but i'm loving my north sky pro. the amount of pop it generates is really amazing. i'd look for a square, wide board for your riding. look at all the freestyle riding len10 and hadlow and those types of riders are doing and look at their board design. it is so easy to land with this shape too. it kind of reminds me of when i got my first pair of big powder sticks- so easy to land and charge everything its like cheating. it feels much more like riding a snowboard than a kiteboard and i really enjoy it. i've heard that the liquid force boards are amazing in that respect too. i'd go for square outline with some width. i'll keep an eye out for you....
