Spencer sent a text to me. (and I assume others)

Jessie is OK, just bruised internals.
Staying overnight at U Med for observation purposes.

Not sure it would have helped, but
In the shallow water of Rush,
I'd like to see more helmets, and impact vests worn,
as always,,it's your call.....

On the way to Toole E.R., Jesse asked me what month it was. When I replied that it was the end of April he questioned if it was his birthday. He told me his birthday was April 29. I wished him happy birthday.

Jesse is fine. I was on my way out the door when I heard a kiteboarding trauma came in so I ran over to the ED. CT scans of the head, neck, chest, abdomen/pelvis were all negative except for a lung contusion and a small pneumothorax on his right side, which they need to observe overnight. I have been hanging out with him and his wife in the obervation unit at the U of U hospital. He will be admitted to a bed on the floor overnight. He will undoubtedly be sore tomorrow. Both him and his wife are in good spirits. Jesse especially, since they didn't put a foley catheter in his pecker to pee! His wife only jokingly threatened to burn all his gear. She dutifully cleaned all the Rush mud off his face and hands but refused to clean his feet! He will recover and it is his birthday! Happy Birthday Jesse! The readings from Rush looked like crap all day long! Hope all you turkeys are home safe!

good to hear the not so bad news yet still terrified. Thanks for the update jason. good to have fellow kiters in the medical field to keep us in good wraps. i think we need to see more safty gear out there too. impact vests and helmets at the least. rush is not that deep and accidents do happen. i am glad jesse was boosting in the middle of the lake instead of the shore side.

Rock on jesse feel better.

glad to hear you are ok jesse! bill stopped by last night and we talked about the accident. i'm so glad you are ok and we didn't have another serious injury (or potentially fatality) at rush. bill and i were talking about crashing techniques and what to wear out at rush. helmets are definitely always a good idea, but we were debating crashing a bit. woudl it be better to try and come in hot on your back or feet, board or sans board at rush?

either way, i'm glad you are going to recover jesse and they didn't have to do the most extremely and humiliating thing you can do to a man. i've had a few in my day and wouldn't wish that on my worst enemy. also- jason you are the man. i think its really cool that you are as caring of a guy as you are and hung out up there with jesse and his fam. everytime i talk to a kiteboarder who visits utah and rides, they always comment on how friendly we all are. people have had their spats here and there, but we really are fortunate to have such a cool group of kiters here who look out after each other in the time of need and can laugh and have a beer or two as the sun goes down on another session....

Awesome news that Jesse's ok! And I'm in agreement with Marty and Jason et. al. Helmets and Impact vests... Why not!? It increases your chances to have more future time on the water... Although, I can't say either wether it would've made a difference. Pneumothorax! That hurts! I hope you heal up alright Jesse... Happy Bday (same as my niece and good friend, april 29th). What's Jesse's last name?

Jason, you're a good man! Spence you too... You're always in the wrong place at the right time.

hope you are healing well. I was at Waddell Creek in California, they guys there were calling it "gusty" and I was laughing thinking that they had no idea what gusty was, then heard the bad news. Glad to hear you didn't suffer anything more major. Rush and Utah in general are nasty places to ride when the wind is gusty, I hope when you are up for it, you can give some insight into the conditions that may help others from getting injured. This is the 3ed life threating injury in conditions that were described in other posts from this accident and the other 2 as "rodeo"...

Heal fast, clean the mud out of your teeth and we will see you on the water soon!

Jesse, I wish you a full and speedy recovery.

What exactly happened out there?

I know the gusty winds can kick your butt. I have had mine handed to me on a muddy platter out there more than one time.

I know Alex and Billy saw what happened,
Maybe they could explain.

I just saw Jesse slowly walking to shore bent over.
Then others going out to help him get to shore.

Basically he dropped straight down from a big gust jump???

Sorry to hear of the spill Jessie and by the sound of things I would say you are in GREAT hands and wish you a full recovery.

I think the wind God's started building up strength down here to blow out all of those candles and grant you a b-day session as it was gusting to almost 50 offshore at Boulder Beach and had a LOT of punch in it and a car almost as trashed as after Burningman! Had a rough dropout jump here also and parachute pants failed to inflate :p and caused video cam to malfunction and miss recording the best part of the session.

I was doing the walk of shame when I saw what happened to Jesse. From what I saw, he was coming down from a big jump when instantly, upon landing on the water (board on feet), he was yanked off his board and straight up. Once he reached an altitude higher than that which he achieved on his jump (~35+ ft maybe more), he came straight down. His body was close to prone position when he hit the water. The kite immediately powered up again and tea-bagged him about two more times from not near as high as the first fall. Jesse, after apparently pulling his safety, removed his harness and kept his head above water in hands and knees position. Many were quick to act in helping him out of the water and retrieve his gear.
