Augie,

While you are there with a saw, don't stop with one tree keep on cutting!

So this beautiful tree might to be taken down so you don't have to see the eyesore of the tattered kite?

I think you should leave the kite there as a reminder and warning to others. Kinda like a lighthouse.

Do not think of trees as an enemy, but an added challenge to be navigated.

I hope you can get it out with the extending tree saw. Or if you can't, I'm sure nature will take its proper course destroying the kite and letting the tree live.

Yes, I am a devout tree hugger :-P

I dont think any of us mind the eyesore of the kite, and we can navigate like we always have. and it would be better to try and cut with a extension saw, but the odds of doing this successfully arent great (after having barely balanced low on a 16' ladder and still seeing another 10-15 to go from the top of the ladder to the tangle). The odds of the chainsaw are pretty good.

Also, its the property owners that dont want the kite in the tree. At this time they having clients coming up there winter and summer, and they would prefer not to have the kite in the tree. I assume Auggie got a preferable blessing from Pow Mow to cut the tree down to get rid of the kite, so what ever it takes to keep the land owners happy.

I like trees also, but it is an eyesore hanging there. It's not good public relations to leave trash flapping in the wind. I kind of hoped it would detach itself but that didn't happen. Yes, I do have permission to cut it, but sorry Kenny it will only be one at this time. Next in line for cutting is the small aspen grove just off the parking lot that you have go around when you climb back up the hill. Maybe not all of them but at least widen the path.

I recently wrapped a 4m foil around a lamppost in a parking lot. Took me about an hour to convince a couple of bridles to snap so it would come down. Does that count?

To echo a couple others, I like trees also. But mostly I like breathing! :|| I know what you were saying about keep cutting... But dude, you're the kite bishop, you need to not expose any "appearance" of underlying nape of crimson or pallet burning tendencies! ;))

Are there a lot of trees with kites in them? I didn't think this was a huge problem... I've seen a lot of bras in trees at the ski resorts, some of them actually could pass for small kites but didn't think that too many kites were in the trees... I wonder if Victorias Secret would honor the same deal that Brian's offering!?

Yes, I am the Kite Bishop and Augie you have my blessing to cut down all the trees that Powder Mountain Management will allow us to cut down.

Trees are a renewable resource. So cut one down, and plant another some place else. It is not a big deal to cut down a small evergreen (or a grove of them for that matter), it is not like cutting down a majestic Redwood or Sequoia that takes hundreds of years to grow and develop.

I just wish we had some taller peaks around here with more space above the tree line. Trees are a bane to snowkiting with sage brush a close second.

Trees have feelings Kenny. They can sense when you have sinister intensions towards them. Do you think your EBAs (Epic Brush Adventures) were accidents? ;))

YEA, just one more reason to stick to the water. Oh, I forgot the Moss at Rush and the K-mans EMA's as well. ;))

The sage brush, trees, and moss are all out to get me - burn'em all! (I am only kidding). I have been flying LEI's more and foils less for just that reason. Living things love the "spaghetti" lines on foil kites, seems like I get into far less trouble with the LEI's. I have not had any EMA's this summer (knock on wood) and I didn't get tangled up in the moss at Rush either. As much as I like the convenience of not pumping, it sure is nice to fly the kite back to the launch spot instead of walking.

The kite is gone, the tree that it was in somehow fell Friday afternoon. I have permission to fell any other trees that we feel may impede our kiting. Therefore I am setting up a trail widening party for Oct 4 for anyone who wants to join in. I would just like to widen both sides of the aspen grove that sits just off the parking lot. It isn't too hard to go past it downhill but getting back uphill gets tough sometimes. If we widen it some, then when the wind is more out of the west getting back uphill to the parking lot is easier. Let me know who is interested and meet me at the gate @10:00 on Oct 4. They moved the gate this summer and it is further back down the road where the condos are. The kite that was in the tree still had air in 2 of the strut bladders. The kite data tag said it was manufactured on Jan 27, 2007. I believe it was put in the tree about last February. Someone spent a lot of money for a Cabrinha 12m Omega and then lost it-Ouch!

It was a good looking kite. Nice job.

I will be there if I can, think my boy has a soccer game about that time. Some additional clearing to consider for a day to come: clearing a way to get over to the White Pine area. I think there are some openings that are filled with the smaller tree and shrub growth.

Clearing a path to White Pine sounds like a better idea than opening up an existing spot. That is fair game also.

Where is White Pine?

Is it the next ridge south of where we kite now?
