Wind Log Posting Rant

It seems like 99% of the crew has stopped posting or never bothers to post on the windlog. For example, I saw a couple or our local riders (they will remain nameless) headed up to Skyline while I was coming down from the reserve. I am curious if the storm cleared up enough to ride. I also read on kiteforum.com that riders have been riding in the Park City area, but no mention here. Since the beginning of December there have been 8 posts and I generated 5 of them. Come on guys, I know that I am not the only one riding.

You should post for the following reasons:
1. The Wind log provides a lot of stoke. I like to read it on days when I am not able to break free and go kiting.
2. The wind log is a very helpful tool for forecasting both wind and surface conditions. We need the entire community to offer input if we want to have a better idea of the surface conditions and which areas are best depending on weather conditions.
3. It builds a community feel among the local crew. We all like to read about what others are doing.

Now, I don't expect you to post on your small parks and ball fields that you wish to remain secret, but when you go to Skyline, PC, Strawberry, PowMow, Evanston, please take a minute to post the wind and surface conditions. When you travel, post. Some of us may want to visit the location at some point in the future. When you get skunked, please post there is no shame in getting it wrong. You can always blame me for screwing up the forecast.

It would be Really helpfull if folks would post that they are going. Before they go .... so I can tag along.

Kenny, I also want to say thanks for all that you are doing! I hope your words will get more riders to post more. I read both the forecast, and windlog dailey, even though I work 5 days a week, and can't get out much. As a total newbie, it's inspiring, to hear where others are getting out, and having fun. It makes me want to get out and try it agian. I wish everyone would post more, just cause it's fun to read.

Nice going Kenny... I agree... It really helps out a lot when you post your sessions on the windlog. It helps to motivate people to get out there and that it is going on! Since I'm also a newbie at the snowkiting thing, I don't get to see how much people are getting out there. Thanks Kenny...

Sarah and Rick,

I was not aware that both of you have decided to take up snow kiting during the winter. That is cool to have some more wind junkies join the darkside! It is still okay to use your windsurfing gear during the summer, it seems to work for Jim. I hope to see you out there this winter!

There is a lot more snowkiting going on than what you read in the posts. Part of the problem, is that some locations are small or private property so riders are afraid to post (I have a couple spots in that category). I don't know why we don't see more posts on Skyline. There are riders there 6 days out of 7.

Kenny, kiting in the Park City area hasn't been much to write about. In fact the small fields we've been riding on are a mixture of snow, grass, dirt and rocks. I tried the Home Depot field on Sat. and hit rocks the whole way. I bet today's snow helped some but one more would make it decent. Richardson Flats is still up in the air. Mike May and I have both called Kerry Gee and left messages but haven't had any response yet. I'm perceiving that as positive because he hasn't called back and said no. There isn't enough snow coverage out there yet so we have some time.

Actually, one of the best things to post this time of year is, "went to so and so and there still isn't enough snow" so that others don't waist the drive. Good job for bringing this up Kenny.

Kenny, Well I at least got a start last year. I took a couple of lessons from Eric, then tried it a few more times on my own. It's tough to be such a beginner! I hope to get to where I can really enjoy it this year. So I guess I'm a winter dark sider. I would like to meet you, and put your face to your name. I'm sure I'll run into you somewhere soon. I am sure that I will see you out there. You may find after some excellent snowkiting days that you look forward to winter more than summer. That is what happened to me.
