Powder Mt Wind station

Powder Mt has a wind station up top now.

Look for the plus marking North of Pine view Lake. It will tell you.

Its blowing good up there. Sunrise Ridge should be good to ride at and other location also like White Pine.

More and more wind station are getting set up at our snowkite spot. Hopefully we will get some set up near our kiteboarding spot.

I noticed this too! I'm stoked on this i rode up there on an ESE wind already.

I rode PM today and just a heads up on that wind meter. The wind was super light and the meter showed at least 13 to 20 all day. Gusts may have hit 13.
Just FYI. I met Ben whose running the Kite school up there and he said that all morning wasn't good and we arrived in the afternoon. So I'd subtract at least 5 mph off that meter if not more.

How is PM on an ESE. What part of the mountain were you able to ride? What time of day did you ride?

Thanks for the info concerning the wind reading. Was the direction posted by the meter accurate? Yesterday afternoon, the meter read in the mid to high teens with wind out of the NNE. So would you say the wind was more like 10-15 mph and how limited was the riding area? Sorry, for the 20 questions, I have one more - how is the surface?

I agree Mike. The reading was higher yesterday.

I found out the wind meter is right on top of the Hidden Lake on the North side. It's right on the edge where it drop into the ski resort and faces North. So, if it's North wind, it will read higher. It's beacuse the wind come up the north face over the top really strong. if you were in the middle of the parking lot or down the mountain it will be lighter.

If It was NE, E, NW or N wind then Sunrise Ridge would be the spot to be at. It the ridge NE from the Puma Lift bar. Where did you ride at, Mike?

Today, it suppose to be East and SE wind. You will be able to ride everywhere even from the parking lot.

I talked to Ben and he said it's light there. I don't know if it going to pick up. With this High Pressure going on, it's very unpredictable where the wind going to happen at around Utah.

I think Pineview Lake could be going off by the dam since it's East wind. I can't find the wind meter by there.

Skyline is going off right now. I don't know how long it will stay that way.

Skyline is always good..in one way or another.. and with a kite, no chairs or lift tickets.

Learned new vision of kiting mountains in France... the future is around the corner and its steep.

Kenny, The wind was pretty light the day I was up there (sat?)...I flew my 12m frenzy and my friend Spence flew an '05 12m Frenzy, my girlfriend flew a 7m Frenzy for a sec then switched to my 10m Frenzy as she wasn't going anywhere...I wouldn't even have tried it with an inflatable. In fact there was a skier with a 11m Best kite and he seemed not so happy. I would say it was blowing 10 maybe? I rode right next to the tower. There was just enough to loop back up to it and when you got going downhill you could send it alright...we just practiced our front rolls the whole time. Far from epic but beggers can't be choosers i guess. We almost made it back to the parking lot where a weird guy was dancing to techno by himself...that was worth the drive by itself...lol. When I looked at the gauge when I got home I thought it was pretty accurate but i dunno...and ya I know Skyline rules! Surface at Pineview is bulletproof as can be I wouldn't recommend it at all unless your really jonezing, rode it today for a bit before I decided I didn't wanna get hurt...peace!

The direction looks to be accurate. I would say the wind speed on Sunday may have gusted to 13 or 14 mph, average being 10 or below. So probably 5-8 mph under the wind meter speed. Ben said it was tough on his 13 waroo, someone had an 11 m waroo out that was on the ground most of the time, and a 14m Frenzy was flying in the gusts. Like Jake said the wind likely funnels up the canyon so it reads high on an easterly wind. Conditions were good, smoother than last time I rode there. Just wanted more wind.
Did Skyline pan out today? Would of gone but used up my wife's hall pass yesterday.
