Great event in Idaho - Snowkite Soldiers

Postby windzup » Mon Feb 23, 2009 10:57 am

You can't forecast the weather. I saw wide spread isobars in Idaho and packed my big kites hoping for the best. We arrived after 2 am to flags that were pegged. The morning offered more of that same lovely steady and strong wind, with epic rides on the Camas Prairie (the Strawbs of the North  )

Good terrain, softening snow, and plenty of range to cover. One of the best days ever for many, wether the passion was logging miles, carving turns or floating on the vertical wind that the terrain offered.

The Poker run was a huge success and one of the best race formats I have experienced. Just ride when and where you want..stop at a checkpoint to pick up your card, then keep kiting. At the end of the day the best hands won some killer prizes from Naish, Ozone & Slingshot.

A lot of Utah faces, more than I normally see outside of Utah. The Nester and Jake, Justin, Big wave Dave and his lady, Heather, Billy B and myself all representing for the mountain kiters of Utah. There might have been more but there were so many new faces I got lost in the crowd.

Watch Out Utah!!! we told everyone how good it is here and the caravans are coming in. From today on expect to see friendly kiters from all over at Strawbs, Pow Mow and Skyline. Several teams are on the road and have been hitting the circuit from Montana land to Idaho to God's Country (thats Utah).

See you out there somewhere this week, and at Skyline this weekend for the SKM!

Windzup,
Brian Schenck

BTW - You missed it Marty

Yea, the event had three EPIC days of snowkiting. Everybody was stoked and beat at the end of the day but they still had energy to to party every night. It must be the Red Bull and Honey milk that's been hand out to everybody at the event site.

Andrew Goldman and Trisha Smith did a great job organizing the event and Poker race plus the people who help the event including Trisha's friend Mel and Her Mom. A lot prizes were given away include Head ski gear, Trew clothing, Slingshot kite, Naish kite bag, beanie/clothes from Ozone, Slingshot, Naish, and Best. Bestkiteboarding donated a kite to Snowkite Soldier. They gave away 09 7m Waroo at the last raffle ticket. The couple from Montana won it. They started snowkiting last Nov. They have been snowkiting every week since they started. That's awesome.

There were definitly a lot new faces and some familiar faces from the gorge.

I can't wait to go back up there soon. The terrians are SICK and endless.

Christ Nestor shot a lot great photos of the event.

I hope to see you at the US Snowkite Open at Skyline next weekend.

Yea, I let the lack of a promising forcast change my mind. I should have gone just for the party and I would have got to ride as a bonus. Next year for sure!
