Utah Lake Festival JUNE 6th After the swap! Please Read!

Postby RickHeninger » Sat May 30, 2009 12:49 pm

WHAT: The Utah Lake Festival WHEN: June 6th from 10AM to 2PM WHERE: Utah Lake Provo Boat Harbor and HOW MUCH: free... A map and article with information is with the link below. It will be super important for us to simply be there... Making an appearance with at least a few kites and sails... Even if it's not windy more the better... Apparently there'll be a bunch of sailboats, a group of samoan canoers, fisherman, and a number of other groups.

This is a crucial time for the planning of Utah Lake's future development. If we don't make an appearance here, they don't know we exist. Because WE are usually there when THEY aren't... PLEASE COME TO THIS after the swap... We won't have an official booth this year because they wanted the million bucks of insurance etc. But it's alright if we show up as individuals and congregate over by the launches.

Read the article below and see that it is to show what recreation opportunities there are on Utah Lake. The Utah Lake Commission is keeping a tab to see who is there as they plan for the future development of Utah Lake as has been posted about the future of Utah Lake (If you haven't already read here's a link to the Newsbulletin about the Utah Lake Commission and its goals: viewtopic.php?f=15&t=5242 )

The Festival has been advertised in SL Tribune, Desnews, and just about everywhere else. I don't know how many people will even show. But I do know, the organizers WILL SHOW... If it looks like a significant enough event then we can do an official booth next year.

Hey All, put together an Event page on Facebook for this, should show up under a search, name is "The 2009 Utah Lake Festival"

Mark, hope you don't mind, I used one of your UL photos from earlier this season with a credit for the picture on the event page.

Anywho, thought this might help get the word out to more people if everyone invites all of their friends, their friends friends, etc..

let me know if i need to change anything and what you guys think of it!

I will be there doing some SUPing with the people from utahpaddlesurfing.com. I guess I can pump up a kite and stick it out there. Trainer kites would be good to have if there was any wind. I don't have one anymore. If you are coming and have a trainer kite bring it please.

Oddly enough there is another Kite Festival at a Utah Lake... Saturday is Utah State Parks day, so all parks are doing activities. Yuba Lake is having a "kite day" event, there are 45 kids and 25 families signed up! They invite and welcome kiters to show off as well. Starts at 1:00 pm on North Beach. Come check it out, looks windy and i have found Yuba much more forging than Provo Marina.

I went to the Festival - arrived with my son just after 10am Saturday. I had my board on the top of my car and a UWA T-shirt on but did not run into any others for the hour and a half I was there. We walked through the booths and I talked with a guy on the Utah Lake commission for a while about our interest in keeping sites clean and available for windsurfers.
I saw one car with some boards on top drive on the north causeway and a pickup drive on the south one. There was no wind to speak of while I was there and I did not see any sails or kites rigged. There were quite a few sailboats just outside the harbor. Hopefully more happened later on.

I was also there early and spent about 10-15 minutes speaking with a woman from the Utah Lake Commission. She said she remembered Rick from the meeting a month ago. I had my trainer kite but did not feel there was a very safe place to fly it where it would actually draw any attention. I know that Don (don't know last name) and some others did pump up a kite back by the SUP area.
