Oregon

My family and I have planned a vacation to the Oregon Coast in July. We will be staying in Lincoln for a week. On the way out I was thinking about stopping in Hood River for 2-3 days and taking some windsurfing lessons. However I have recently read about Floras Lake on the Oregon Coast. It is suppose to get reliable wind and the rentals and lessons are cheaper than Hood River. Has anyone been to Floras Lake? Would you recommend taking lessons in Hood River or Floras Lake? I know how to water start but can't sail in the straps yet or jibe. My kids might want to take some lessons as well. They are total beginners.

Floras is a nice place and it gets wind as consistantly as the Gorge. Floras is quieter and the Gorge has more of a windsurfing/kiting scene. The Gorge will be warmer in July. You'll need a full wetsuit at Floras or a 3/2mm or shortie at the Gorge. I would imagine you will fall in alot learning so that could be a factor.

Thanks for the input everyone. I got it figured out, I'm going to do both. On the way out we are going to drive through central Oregon and check out the Cascades then on to Floras Lake. After two or three days windsuring at Floras Lake we will drive North to Lincoln City where we have a cottage reserved for 6 days. Then on our way home we will drive through the Gorge and spend a couple days in Hood River windsurfing there.
