How that compare to getting a Kahoona 13.5 for light wind?

this kite crushes a tiny little 13.5. It is the most pull for a 17 I have flown, Plus it weighs what a 13 does!

Hey Travis,

You wouldn't want to jump on 17m yet when you are learning. 17m is a lot to hold down for beginner.

The Kahoona would be more comparable with Ozones Light XC (the Light was the first 3 strut kite on the market... likely inspiring the Kahoona and other 3-4 strut designs.)
There is a 12 and a 14m Light that will compare more directly with the power of a 13.5m Kahoona, although the big difference is between the materials and construction techniques used by these two different brands. Ozone uses only the highest grade of Tejin and Dacron sailcloth, where other brands use the lower grade materials that may cost less, but do not offer the durability, strength or UV resistance.

As for the 17 Zephyr.... I LOVE it more every session. The last 2 years I conceded that a 13m kite and big board got me riding in the lightest of winds... now I can ride a smaller board, powered up, and even go in a couple miles an hour less of wind. I think it will replace my 13 for the 8-18mph range... and I will switch to my 11 meter kites when the wind picks up above that.

If you are new to kiting, Jake's right, a kite in the 12m range is the best all around size, then you can choose a 17 Zephyr as your second kite that will opeen up your riding range.

On that note, I feel that the Zephyr relaunches as good as the 13's and better than the 15 m kites in the same winds, so it really helps if you are dropping your kite in the lighter winds.

Again, I CANNOT say enough good things about this kite... it has tons of power and has changed my view on light wind riding.

Travis is just jonesing since he has been skunked more then any new kiter in the state this year. I wouldn't let him fly a zephyr. Plus I have suggested he stay with the kite brand he has. Of course he just asks the same questions here since it seem he just doesn't beleive me on the beach.
