Jasons Race board goes into production

Postby windzup » Mon Sep 28, 2009 1:27 pm

Spent some time with Adrian Roper of Underground Boards while at the Industry Expo in the Gorge.

In addition to their current line of twin tips and strapless surf boards, UDG is working with Mikes Lab and Chip Wasson to shape a production race board. This should help bring the custom cost down allowing more folks the opportunity to own and ride race boards.

On that note, more and more kiters are realizing the light wind advantage of race boards. They crank up wind, and offer the volume and surface needed for lighter air. There is a race series forming this winter in Seattle, and already kiters like Adam Koch are scoring fun rides in light wind while training.

Underground also offers a speed board for record setting... and will be shaping a line of boards for Ozone that will come out of the UDG factory side by side with their other quality decks.

Is it a coincidence that UG light wind board is the named Zephyr,
just like the Ozone light wind kite?

Well, now that you mention it... I have heard that great minds think alike....but this may be coincidence looking at the parties involved. More like same wave length (no pun intended) both parties had similar visions when 'light Wind' came to mind. On that note the 2010 'Zephyr' board will be called the 'Stella'...apparently Euro languages had trouble pronouncing the term and found the word 'Zephyr' odd. Try to wrap your head around that, must be tricky to be a marketing guy trying to sell the same product worldwide to 40+ different cultures and countries.

On the Ozone side, the Zephyr kite will continue on for many, many years.... and it is a great combo with the UDG Stella/Zephyr.
