Snow Report Oct 28

Postby windzup » Wed Oct 28, 2009 11:16 am

Just got back from a morning at Skyline. First serious snow of the season, and it should stick around for a base... but the cold temps made the snow dry powder. My fear is it may blow around, and without a wet mix of snow added to it, we won't have a solid base layer at all. Nice to see nearly a foot tho!

Below are some pics. It measured 7 inches in the parking lot over the pavement. I measured 9 inches average over most riding spots, and a drift of 11 inches in a meadow.

You could kick down to dirt easily thru the light puffy powder. Not any where near a snowkiting base surface yet. I tripped over a bunch of hidden objects, and it wasn't enough base to snow shoe around on. Too bad, cause the wind was solid from the north.

I'm hopefull for today's forecast to add more snow, but doubtful that the temperatures will cooperate for a good base mixture.

I would predict that any Snowkiting this weekend in Utah is going to happen on grassy flat fields in the lower elevations. I had a better base with 6 inches at my house this morning. So lets all look at our backyard soccer fields and report back here... Hows PC looking this morning?

Brian,

Thank you for the snow report from Skyline. We really need some heavy snow to fall, let's keep our fingers crossed that it will happen soon!

Yes! I never thought I'd say it, but I hope it gets wet and warm tonight in the Wasatch!

Heather & I may go back up tonight if the roads look good. The cameras that Jim found don't look to bad, but it has been snowing in the Mount all day and Skyline looks socked in from here.

Fingers crossed. Here's that link from Jim http://www.utahcommuterlink.com/ just hit the 'statewide' link on the left.

Windzup, Snowsup, what next?
