Snowkite Worldcup- World Championship-2010?

Postby jason morton » Thu Nov 12, 2009 2:02 pm

Just saw this on kiteforum. I call bullshit. What do you guys think? Brian/Heather? Looks like anyone having a contest on their local lake can call their event a World Cup event. The SKM should be the World Cup of snowkiting.

Well, Jason... hate to bust the bubble... but they may be legit.

If I am correct, (and I only briefly looked at the event since Europe is not in my plans this winter) That event has been the location and organized by the guys that host the German SKM and national champs. But due to lack of locations in Germany they host it elsewhere.

The plan, as cohort-ed by the SKM organizers from US/France/Germany, is to have each offer its own National Champion Title, and rotate the world title from event to event. Down the road, also instigate a point system as the comp grows... allowing for anyone attending any or all the events to achieve a more true global title.

Last winter the French SKM claimed the World Title, and truly had a world wide attendance. We are working towards the similar goal here at the Skyline US Open SKM.

On that note, while I have never been to a WISSA event, I would give them credibility as legitimately claiming world titles. They been at it for decades, offer a wide class of racing, and move the event around the globe.

On a positive note, as you are totally correct in dissing their claim... I say we host the 'World Champion Kiter-Drinker' contest at Skyline. You have to hit the kicker and send a trick, stick the landing and chug a brew. Last man standing is the new World Champ! (You know I've been training in this discipline for years tho right!
