Cheap Hawaii Trip from LAX or SF

I did this last year to Maui and had a great time. You have to get yourself to LA or SF and add a rental car on top of it but my wife and I did the whole trip last year for under $1000 for the two of us.

As a side note, it was $299 and $329 last year so it has gone up $100 since then. Still a pretty good deal though.

A couple of weeks ago, I saw that Alaska Airlines had roundtrip airfare from PDX to OGG (Portland to Maui) for $319.
I don't know if it is still available, but if you could combine a Gorge - Maui trip, it would be sweet!
