Have you tried this yet?

I know Peter and others are setting records on huge glides and all. But if you want to take up it up a notch, then check this out: http://www.utahoutside.com/2010/12/amaz ... -superior/. That looks like some crazy fun. It steps up the risk a bit too though. One little thing goes wrong and you're in a serious mess. Here's one of guys flying/skiing down the Eiger http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UwWLnaME ... re=related. It looks awesome!!!

Travis there are a ton of people that speed fly that are also kiters, My self and several others have tried speed flying and it is a bit to spendy for me, but there are a group of devoted flyers, the video you posted has Tommy Renyolds and Trevor Morrell, and Marshall Miller, thoose cats are all kiters this is trevors first year flying, but Tommy and Marshall helped pioneer the sport in the US five+ years ago.

On a side note, slash relality check, No one in Utah is setting records or pushing new ground gliding, with kites. There has been a hard core group or euros flying over a thousand feet high, on 4 minute plus flights with kite gear for years, no one in utah is even coming close, to that, and any gliding that goes on at skyline is off the begginer hill, and will never come close to what can be achived at other spots around the state. We do have a talented group of kiters who fly well, but what you see on our local forum is nothing compared to the current level of flight with kites world wide.

Here is some locals at skyline for the snowkite masters, I just dsaw this on kiteforum.com

thanks for the info billy. I can't see myself bombing off of cliffs like they're doing, but it would be sweet to try in a 'safer' more controlled situation. But then I guess you could make a strong case for just gliding my kites I already have! I also wonder how many years of paragliding experience some of these guys might have. It seems like EXTREME paragliding.

Travis, you might be surprised at how easy speed flying is to learn. The wing is much more stable than a paraglider, therefore safer in my opinion. Definitely safer then flying high on kite gear. They fly pretty fast though so if you crash into a soliid object your pretty much screwed. Utah speed riders are a pretty motivated bunch as canyons is the only lift access, others are hiking or sledding for their big rides. One could quite safely learn to speed ride at bosco hill. You can foot launch and land them in the summer as well. Google or youtube speed flying superior, monte cristo, cardiff etc for locals tearing it up. Superfly paragliding also offers lessons.
