A big thanks to Pepe, Bordy, and Chris G. for checking out the conditions at Lake Creek and Skyline. Sounds like it is still too rugged for riding. We need more snow to kick-off the season. The good news is that any new accumulation should stick around for a while.
For those new to the sport. Lake Creek is reachable by an unplowed road. This creates a quandry, by the time it is really good to ride, the road is inaccessible (unless you have a sled). Skyline will be the first mountain location to open up, but there are plenty of rocks, so be advised that it will require rock skies for a while. There are also plenty of tall weeds and sage that will snag the lines of downed kites. So, the bottom line is that if you want to avoid a ton of frustration, wait for a couple good dumps. If not, you have been advised. Regarding Strawberry, it will probably be a month or more before it is rideable. We could get lucky like we did last year, but typically Strawberry does not open up until late December/early January. Strawberry opens up later because it is at a lower elevation than Skyline, it has lots of surface obstacles (rocks, sage, creeks, etc.).
