The mow of pow, 1/29 15 & 10

Postby Jason Klein » Sun Jan 29, 2012 10:53 pm

Nice day at powmow. Soft windblown snow with 2" stashes in spots. Wind was 15-17 when i started and built thru the day to around 30. Started on my 15m and swapped to the 10m an hour later than i should have. Joined by John G. on an 11 edge, also a guy on a 12 rpm, that was pribably the right sized kite most of the day, and another person on an Ozone foil. Overall fun day.

Glad you scored! Remember that when you kite at Pow Mow, you are up wind of a ski resort. Guy on the 12m RPM left his kite to go get lunch, it blew away onto the ski slopes and tangled 7 skiers. Luckily no one was hurt, this is the kind of thing that could get snow kiting banned from Pow Mow, please secure your kite and lines when walking away from it. Also, please make sure your safety leash is attached to a flag out line so you can land your kite fast when needed. Thanks!

Slingshot is coming to Powder Mt. Wednesday February 8th to do a kite demo. I will post more info this afternoon on the main forum.

WTF?? Who leaves their kite unsecured on top of Powder Mt. so they can go get some lunch. This dude needs to be kicked in the throat.

Anyone that leaves their kite unattended to go to lunch is really out to lunch, but we all make f ups. (like self launching off of an atv, snapping the tether and sending the kite into the power lines.) last nights reply was too much vino..Sorry for the tongue lashing rpm guy.

I met the guy on the RPM while heading out, but forget his name. Looked to be a competant kiter and probably closer to John G's age than mine. He had kited back to the parking area, and landed there. I headed over that way maybe 10 mins later and as i got close, saw his kite, LE down into the wind, with skis laying on LE. After one more tack, I noticed the kite wasn't there anymore and i remember thinking "wow, he put that away pretty fast", until i saw him walking up the hill with a tangle of kite and lines 10 minutes later. The wind was 25+ at that point (I was going back to the lot to rig down). He was probably at his car for only 5-10 minutes when it got away. I guess the lesson here is kites will slide much easier on snow than on the beach and leaning your skis/board up on the leading edge isn't sufficient.

Sorry, John, was just looking for a delicate way to suggest that he wasn't a reckless kid. Of course, now i've insulted all of our younger members....
