3/13 Grandpa's Rock Rush

Postby Jon Manwaring » Tue Mar 13, 2012 4:06 pm

It was like Deja Vu all over again, only 10+ yrs later. Grandpa's: Marty-Doug-Vern and Me Riding the smoother, early morning wind at Rush. MIA were the adolescents: Mikey and Kenny, and the babies: Jeff, Jakey, Ry, Morton. Bordy. Our enthusiasm was almost as high as our combined ages. We ripped it up on 8 and 7 M's. At first, wind was pretty smooth and so was the water way up South (May even be a isolated Pond for the Annual Morton Speed Run). And as usual, it got a bit gusy later on. All in all, a fine day on the pond. Thanks to Mike,( lone windsurfer) for a toss. Others may have arrived for the pm session, after I left to go home for my nap. See ya out there tomorrow. So far... Grandpa's have scored on all three RUSH days. Old Guys Rule.

I pulled up just when Marty, Doug, Vern and Jon were packing up. Just as I was getting ready to launch Mr. Craig Goudie pulled up. He gave me a launch and the two of us picked up where the others left off. I was on 11.5 and had to keep adjusting the kite from fully powered to de-powered since the gusts kept coming and going. I had an absolute blast! I was able to get up wind all the way to the south end of the lake. boosting, ollie-ing the white caps hooting and hollering at Craig as we passed each other. So fun! Love me some water!

The grandpas may be in the lead but the roookie is on the board!

What Andy said! Good enough for 5.5 and a 75 Ltr board.
On and off. I pretty much walked in on my last fetch, but
it was all good. Good to meet Andy too.

The mid day session (1:30-4:00) between Jon's rides and Andy and Craig's rides,
Was surprisingly the smoothest of the day.
Nicely powered on my 10M, we searched out the butter smoothies
at the south end, Rush is Plush!

Cold is a pretty personal thing, but I wouldn't have wanted to be in the water
without my drysuit.

I was in a 4-3 with 5 mil boots and 3 mil gloves and hood. BUT my secret weapon is the heated vest I wear under my suit. Quicksilver makes it and its AWESOME. There is a little heating coil in it just like an electric blanket that heats your core. That being said my legs weren't cold with just the 3 mils on them. Billy and Jason seemed to be OK in wetsuits on Sunday but I think they were in 5-4s

Eric I was fine in a 5-4-3 suit and 3mil booties. No hood no gloves. I did grow up surfing in New England so my idea of cold is much different than others... Good suit booties n hood and you should be plenty warm, plus rush heats up fast when it is warm out so the water temp is rising each day!
