11-8-2012 Windy Everywhere but YUBA

Postby Jon Manwaring » Fri Nov 09, 2012 1:21 pm

Fun overnighter Wed in Marty's RV. Disappointing next day kiting. Marty popped his 11M self launching after getting Me and Jeff up and out (Thanks Dad). I had a couple of OK reaches on my 12 but ventured too far to the other side and got caught when the wind suddenly dropped off. Jeff was nearer the launch side and got back OK. I waited over there for almost 2 hours for the wind to come back up to get back. Didn't want to attempt a drift or swim across. Jeff 4 wheeled, in his Mits Eclipse around the lake to the rescue me. Such a good Son. After we got back, Marty finally got a ride on the 17M and Jeff again on his 11 late in the day from the west. Their fun lasted for about 15 Min. Sorry Mark, to have missed your party. Bet you had a better day then we did.

Ahhhh bummer. Yeah, Mark's party got better as the afternoon wore on. What time did you guys start at Yuba? I've heard it's more of a morning place like Willard, and have only kited there 3? times in gusty ass wind.

We woke to wind.
From the overlook where we camped the wind and swell had us excited,
but it was 34 degrees and had to warm some,
plus the forecast was looking stronger later anyway.
I don't remember the exact time we went to the water, but it was to late. maybe 10ish
I agree that the summer thermals wind is best in the early AM.
I didn't think that was in play, but I was wrong.

Lindon was DEAD until about 130 or so with wind everywhere else as well. It started out OK, got flukey, picked up, and then picked up some more. With Provo airport reading 21-35, there was 10 mph wind at Lindon. I looked like Willard started early and then slowed down as well. I dunno...
