2/22 Pow Mow Skunk and Pineview Redemption

Postby Augie » Fri Feb 22, 2013 7:46 pm

Went to Pow Mow and the wind was so light and out of the wrong direction that I didn't even try. I made several ski runs with a couple of friends and packed it in early. I was going to go home and do some chores but when I got down to the Eden Post Office the flag was blowing. I parked by the yacht club and checked the wind again and decided to give it a try on my 13m. The wind did die a few times but it also blew about 15 W most of the time. Wes showed up after about an hour and he went down by Cemetery point. The odd thing was the wind was out of the south there instead of the west out in the middle of the reservoir. 2 kites flying within a quarter mile of each other and the wind window was 90 degrees off. The ice is way solid with only the very rare soft spot on the edges. The surface is about 4 inches of soft snow that will hold an edge if you aren't really cranking. I think it will probably firm up overnight and be more firm tomorrow.

My guess is that tomorrow both Pineview and Monte are going to be good early. Just watch for the quick moving frontal winds.
