2/6-12 Maui

We had a different week on Maui. The wind blew from the opposite direction from normal (Kona). I was bummed at first and was thinking the week was going to be a skunk, but then I thought that maybe some different opportunities would present themselves. Sure enough, that's what happened. I kited a couple times at Thousand Peaks which had fun small waves and great whale watching/encounters. I remembered Jason Morton saying that there was a launch by S Turns so I looked around and found a locals place that they call Kahana Reef.
There's a group of kiters that are there every day and for the most part were friendly and welcoming. The waves are bigger there because they wrap around from the north. The launch and landing was tight and once when the wind died I had to land on a tiny beach between some people. Fortunately they were friendly. The only way to the road from there was through their high rise and I got some looks of horror and disgust as I was dripping water and sand on their tiled floors.
We went to a variety of surf breaks on the South Shore and all were fun. Definitely turned out to be a better week than I was thinking at first.

We had a day of the "Vog". It's when the wind blows the smoke from the volcano on the main island over Maui. So the sky wasn't very clear in this picture.
