The Tiki Dinner Party was fun... Always fun to see such satisfied smiling faces... Danger D. wouldn't read his fortune cookie though which was a let down!
Sailing with the Utah windsurf group is always fun... We had some great sessions... The Gorge treated us all well, but I do have to say that it seemed that the wind was a little different this year... Maybe it's me but it did seem a little strange... One day at the Hatchery, I got there at 5:30 AM and walked to the water... The wind had a strong southern component which made getting out really easy and the rollers were smooth as glass for some reason that morning... Then other days it seemed to have more north than usual sometimes leveling out the swell...
Don't think for a minute that I'm complaining... I loved it the whole time, but I just made that observation and it's my perspective...
I waited a lotta years to get a perfect, good wind Utah board for me... I picked it up from Jake Miller at Windance... It's a freestyle wave Quatro, 95L and it took sailing to a new level of fun for me up there. It takes the chop well, and is butter in the swell... More than the board itself it is that volume (95L) that I have wanted for a while... It worked great... I sailed the 115L flow, the 78L wave board (most of the time), and the Quatro... I sailed every sail in my quiver (mostly the 5.2 and 4.2)... I used every wetsuit I've got, I used the seat harness and the waist harness...
I got shin splints, a sore hand, a fat holey lip (boom at Rufus), a sore back, with Oregon Cherries on top! I still had a great time... We actually went to a couple of the "Familie night Movies in the park" there in Hood River... Very cool community thing that they do there... Bonded with more great people from here and there...
PS... Also, the new Northwave sail with the Dacron leech is pretty light... It rotates with ease... It feels as though all the weight is the mast and boom... If you are a Northwave sail person, demo the dacron leech sails. Talk to Kris Moe at Northwave and tell him I sent you. He'll work a deal with you. They are trying to maintain NW's solid history.
Oh and I won a medium Naish seat harness from the raffle at the King of the Hook event. If you need a new harness and are interested in it call me. 801-635-6699
