Forecast for Lake Mead

Postby stokes » Mon Jun 06, 2005 2:35 pm

Craig or anyone who may know -

I was wondering if you may have an idea of the weather conditions in Lake Mead Wednesday and Thursday this week. I am going to be down there and have heard the wind blows there everyday. So if you have a minute or two to give me your forecast wisdom I would appreciate it. Also any launching sites you know of would help a ton. Thanks guys!

I've never had much luck down there with wind. It's more reliable to go the
extra 1.5 hours to Mohave, but, it looks like there's good jetstream support
around Mead for South wind in the 7.5 range (or 15 M if you are a Kite boarder) both
Weds and Thursday, with Weds likely stronger. I'd recommend the far
South tip of the lake around the town of Overton. Look for a launch there
called Stuart's point.

Naturally a prefrontal South wind would be best, but the only front I see
will be gone by the time you get there. Pressure gradient is reasonably tight for
South wind though.

Good Luck,

-Craig
