It is funny to look back on my e-mails to John where I kept saying how iffy the wind this morning would be. We have had lots of sweet 6.0 sessions on predictions of 10-20 but never an event like this. As much as I have sailed here I have no explanation for the high winds. Basically, we saw predictions of +10 mph South on the SLC 3-day wind graphs and figured it was worth looking at early. I figured it would be 6.5 to 7.5 but both of us saw high wind on the Meso at 6:00AM and were at the lake by 7:30. If you don’t like to get up early this isn’t your lake.
I had 2 hours on the 75L Gorge sinker board and 1 hour on the 85 liter Sonic, all with the 5.3. Identical winds to Utah Lake Saturday before last but 20-30 degrees warmer. At the risk of being called delusional, the waves were darn near as big as UL too. Not as high of winds as last Saturday afternoon but definitely more sailable, filled in and very steady. For the 1st 2 hours there was no looking over the shoulder for the next windline, it was either strong or stronger and filled in shore to shore.
