Blown away at Rush

Postby Marty Lowe » Fri Jun 17, 2005 9:13 am

Already this morning I have heard from Doug, Kenny, (Vern, Jon)
they have been to Rush and left because of very gusty 45+ winds.
Doug and Jon heading to Willard, and looking for less wind.

NOT A BEGINNER KITE DAY. Be careful.

Great day to be a jibber.

It was a spankfest (a Mitch kind of morning). I arrived at 5 AM to nukin wind out of the SE. I have never seen it that strong so early in the morning. I rigged a 9M on 23M lines and rode for over an hour in gusty, nasty, spiking wind. I went and rigged an 8M, but I had the depower strap all the way in so the kite would not steer properly. I got hit with a gust and pulled the eject handle on my Windwing bar. Unfortunatly, instead of the kite depowering, the whole kite was ejected (defective bar). Lucky for me, the kite was not damaged. Tried 20M lines with the 8M and found the gusts to be too much and the lulls to not be enough. Packed it up by 8 and went in to work.

Only Mitch would enjoy kiting in wind that nasty

Wish I knew how to sail, this will be a perfect day for it.
