I wish I was kiting on the Danish sea. Hey- forecast calls for South wind 20-30 mph tomorrow. Possible options are: Yuba- go camp there and hit the early morning thermal. Utah lake- MM19 or Lindon beach. Deer Creek. Jordanelle. Grantsville Res. early morning. Maybe Willard Bay. All depends on the rain and t-heads. Cold too.

Thomas:

If I remember correctly your in Provo right?
South wind options aren't the best around Utah lake. But Lindon might work for you. I don't kite so I am not the best person to ask.

It does seem like DC has seen more kiters this year then ever, so you could probably go up to the island beach resort around 11:00. Maybe someone that kites there could show Thomas the ropes.

Grantsville is far from Provo and very small right now.

Willard has a great beach and clean water and probably decent wind in the mornings. I think the rule is south wind stops blowing there around 1 pm. That would be a 1.5 drive for you.

Yuba is fun but you would probably end up by your self. Also about a 1.5 from Provo.

Anyway, I will probably be windsurfing either Grantsville or Willard Bay tomorrow morning. But my time is pretty limited. Gotta finish getting the roof on.

You might want to try DC.

i'm thinking of trying to catch the beginning of the storm tomorrow on utah lake. any other takers? i've never tried to get ahead of a storm on a south before. i'm just thinking of looking at radar for evidance of precip and wind indicators that it's kicking up. who knows, may be a total blowout, but i'm up for the search.

any other advice? any of you vets have any tips to offer? Bishop Kenny? Criag? Marty? i'm sick of getting skunked and might just bag the whole thing because i'm sick of driving, but the possibility... is this why we call ourselves wind junkies?

Tonight, I'm preparing for the options,
but not making any decision until morning.

Moisture will be the thing that will probably ruin a good wind day.

I'm looking at either Willard, or Sulphur. because they are both closer for me than Utah Lake or Deer Creek.

I'm sure the forecast will change in the morning, it always does.

IMHO

Here are my thoughts...

The moisture is coming out of the south, so Yuba and Mona will get dicey a little more early on.

Grantsville is probably the best bet, but it is so small. DC is a possibility, depends on cloud cover and wind direction. Sulphur will probably be good, but cold!

I am thinking that Willard is the most likely bet with Lindon a close second. Could be a skunk, it is hard to say until morning.

The forecasted wind has been reduced this morning, big surprise. Lindon or Deer Creek seem like good options. Keep your eye on the sky.

Sulphur is about 2 hours from Provo. Not ideal for kiting, the launch is tricky without a kite slave and its getting cold up there.

Too Cold

Postby witt » Sat Sep 22, 2007 10:27 am

Ya, It's probably too cold for you guys up there. Just kidding. They say a high of 69 up in Evenston today and a high of 72 in the valley. So I think untill the front passes it won't be too fridged up there. I sailed up there last Sunday and the water wasn't too bad yet. I was fine in my wetsuit but I'll take the drysuit today just in case. The 3 kiters from Jackson did O.K. launching from just downwind of the boatramp. With the water level down that little spit of land sticks out there a bit and they did fine. I was thinking about Yuba, but the forcast looks kind of weak, so I'm going to Sulfur today and see what happens tommorrow. Maybe North by then. Take care and good luck. Tom W. P.S. I can go over Gaurdsmans Pass and be in Evanston in an hour and 15 min. Where from Silver Fork to Yuba is at least 2 hours.
