Mojave next week

I'm trying to get out of town by tues. and head south. I'll stop in Beaver Dam Arizona and visit a friend and then head down. I've not been down there like forever so if someone could tell me the in's and outs of 6 mile or Katherine's ,where is better and where the Utah gang hangs out, that would be cool.Anyone else headed down? I need a break in case it ever snows and I start the winter grind. Thanksgiving sounds like a good time, but you know when you work at a resort weekends and holidays are booked. If it snows a bunch I'll have to come back to work, but if it doesn't, I can hang for a while. If anyone's interested, call me 891-2008. Tom W.

I don't think there will be much wind until Friday, but then again I am not a weatherman. Friday will be south wind so go join Bucky and Gunnars in 6 mile cove. If you have never been there you want to go to searchlight nevada turn east and head down a long steep hill, when you approach the big powerlines there is a dirt road to the right. It should have a sign to direct you to 6 mile. Head down to little mexico and enjoy some really good south wind and 90 degree temps.
The real debate is where the best north wind spot is. I hold that cabinsite point out of katherine's landing in arizona is best. You will have to travel 45 to 60 minutes south back through searchlight and then bullhead city to get there. I suspect that the north is good at six mile but a sail size bigger. Case in point two weeks ago the six mile crew sailed 5's while we sailed 3.5 to 4.0 at cabinsite.

thanks josh. i may be dreaming but some vacation time could develop. ya never know.

which sites give good wind forecasts? i guess you figure 8 hours drive door to door from slc to 6 mile and everyone camps there.

In the summer, 6Mile can get really crowded on weekends. I was there in early Sept on a Sunday and there were about 100 people in the small cove with Jet Skis, Power boats, House boats, Cars, Trucks, RV's. Nowhere to set out kite lines. I think the Fall and midweek are much better.

I know 6 mile is good on a South wind. I have heard that 9 mile can be really good on a North wind. You just keep going South down that powerline dirt road for 3 more mile before you turn down to the water at the Lake.

I'm sure Gunnars and Bucky will know. Camping at 6 mile is free with pit toilets. Supplies available at Searchlight. Enjoy.

For Mojave, I use Bullhead city forecasts via NOAA... But also, I use Mesonet's array of offerings. If you set up your MyMesoNet account, you can customize dozens of features... I've got mine giving me info on Maui, Hood River, Mojave, and all of our lakes.

I gotta tell ya, my 4.7 session a couple of weeks ago at Mojave is really tempting me to get back down there...
