Mohave Forecast update 11/21-11/25

Postby Craig Goudie » Wed Nov 21, 2007 9:53 am

Looks like today is the North howler. Best from morning till about 3PM
If it's too cold or you're getting blown off, wait about an hour as it will
likely diminish slowly from about Noon on (and warm up). Figure small cloth at
Kathrine's, and probably 4.7 sails or 9M Kites at 6 Mile till noon. Temps
in the low 70s will give way tomorrow to lower 60s at Kathrine's.
6 Mile probably 8 degrees cooler.

Tomorrow looks like huge Kites or formula gear on a North. Best at Kathrine's
from about 10-2. I think it will require an 8.5, or 18M. If you're
trying to Kite at 6 Mile, it should be steady, but put up your biggest Kite
and hope for the best. Figure mid 60s at Kathrine's and mid 50s at 6 Mile.

Friday better North winds as the Jet enhances the surface. Still best
at Kathrine's (like it always is on a North), Looks like 7.5/6.5 or 15
most of the day. 6 mile will be good North and planable also, but not
as strong and low to mid 50s.

Saturday still better North wind at Kathrines. Maybe a dip down to
5.5 mid afternoon, it looks like mostly 6.5, or 13. and maybe 60 degrees.
6 mile will also be good North, but reguire a size bigger Kites or sails.

Sunday looks like light South breezes and a fine day for driving.

Happy Thanksgiving! You know how lucky you are,

-Craig

Given this update, for the people heading down there, are you going to 6 mile or katherine's? Sounds like wind will be better at katherine's, but camping & kite launching is better at 6 mile. I'm heading down after work today, but will likely sleep somewhere along the way and arrive tomorrow morning. Any input appreciated. Aslo, maybe just chime in here if you're going - was wondering how big the Utah contingent will be. my cell 435-647-6267

Jason:

I have seen kiters launch at cabinsite point, but it seems that most of them launch at telephone cove on the big sandy beach then sail into the channel. It is hard for windsurfers to launch there due to the 15 -20 foot ledge/cliff along the side of the cove. At the current water level the windshadow is about 75 -100 feet then you are out of the cove.
Infact that is the only place I have seen kiters launch there. For the most part their smile is still large but sligthly smaller than the windsurfers.

I hope that helps you out.
Whatever thou art, do well thy part.

I keep debating between Katherine's and 6mile. I think we might just camp near 6Mile tonight and see what that's like in the morning, and check out Katherine's tomorrow.

We'll be driving a gray 4Runner towing a SeaDoo, so if you see that, that's us. Here's my cell: 616-460-0914

FYI: For those who have never been to Mojave before, I just found a couple good maps in pdf format by doing a google search for 'lake mojave map, telephone cove'

Mojave: Katherine's Directions

Postby John Dubock » Wed Nov 21, 2007 2:55 pm

when you see Laughlin, go over the river, the Davis Dam road is closed. Turn left, uphill for 2 miles, left turn to Davis Dam, Katherine's Landing. $5 bucks for 5 days, $10 for camping.

Do not pick up any hitchhiking blue haired gambling Grandma's, having lost their shirts in the casinos they will roll your @ss

In Searchlight go over 25mph and you'll get a fast ticket. Fakie cop car in town is an landmark, wave and step on it...

Hi Lisa,

Just for your reference. Kathrine's is the camp site (and power boat launch). You actually
have to travel another mile or so North on the east side of the lake to get
to the Windsurfer launch site (Cabinsite point), or slightly less North to get to telephone cove. 6 mile is much more attractive for Kite launch, so
if the wind stays up at 6 mile, enjoy. On a North it's almost
always 5-10 MPH stronger at Kathrine's (cabinsite) than at 6 mile.
