Whats the good and the bad stuff about Willard? I only saw one post from Mike R. early in the spring, but that was it. Can anyone tell me about any good days recently and what to expect there. Thanks Ahead! SR

Sarah,
After all the years windsurfing and now kiting Willard.
2 main points are. (on south winds)
It can be blowing good in the valley until you get to North Ogden,
then it can be dead at Willard. I think the mountains are like an eddy in a river, and push the wind away from Willard.
BUT
If there is blowing dust out west, it's possible to have a great day there.

There is a new wind meter out there, don't know how much it will help.

Willard Bay Wind

Sarah,

Ditto what Marty said. Sailing at Willard is a matter of convenience for me because I live in Riverdale. It seems that a wind direction truer to South is best for Willard yet I have sailed on all directions except East. If you occasionally get a whiff of a livestock farm then the potential is good. Choosing sail size can be deceiving if you let the waves influence your decision. Many rig smaller than they should. The waves/swells are really fun when it is blowing. The rigging area is great thanks to the renovations in the past few years. One can sail the South winds from Pelican beach or the beach north of the boat loading area yet the North beach is a little more protected from the wind. Skunk potential is fairly high but if you hit it right you’ll have fun. Today I’m looking more at Sulfur than Willard to reduce my skunk potential. Sail on!

Willard Road Traffic

Postby Marc » Fri May 26, 2006 9:10 am

One more thing Sarah. The highway construction from Kaysville through to North Ogden is causing some huge traffic. Try to avoid from 3:30pm until 7:00pm going North when Hill AFB empties and the commute starts. Good luck!

I would like to give it a try at some point. What do they charge to get in there for the day? I would think you could get some pretty good swell there. I'll keep my eye on it.
